Our Organisational Structures
How
we fit into the NHS
The structure below outlines the reporting structure from the
Secretary of State to the Department of Health and those bodies
reporting to it and shows how the ambulance service fits to the
NHS. You click the image below to view or download.

NEAS is also now a Foundation Trust. This has shifted the
balance of accountability away from the Department of Health and
towards a Council of Governors. The Council is made of elected
members of the public from the service's Foundation Trust
membership, making the Trust more accountable to the medical needs
of the population it serves. You can find out more about our
Foundation Trust status here.
Organisational
Structure
The Trust
Board comprises of 15 members: a Chairman, seven Non-Executive
Directors and seven Executive Directors, one of whom is the
Chief Executive.
The role of the Board is to:
- Provide active leadership of the organisation
- Set its strategic direction and aims, ensuring that both
financial and human resources are in place, and
- Monitor and review management performance.
The Board also determines the organisation's values and
standards and ensures these are maintained in the conduct of
the whole Trust's business. All Board members subscribe to the
Codes of Conduct and Accountability in the NHS. A key function
of the Board is to ensure that there is effective dialogue between
the local community on its plans and performance.
