Equality, diversity and human rights

North East Ambulance Service is committed to providing equality of opportunity. We want to ensure that we provide services and employment opportunities that consider and are tailored to peoples’ specific needs.

We use the NHS England’s Equality Delivery System 2 as our framework to monitor and improve our performance on equality and inclusion. We have also made a commitment to the Job Centre Disability Confident  scheme, the Stonewall Work Place Equality Index, meet our mandated requirements in relation to the Workforce Race Equality Standard and support a range of other initiatives.

At NEAS, we will always recognise the needs of people with characteristics which are protected by law, these are:

•  age

•  disability

•  sex

•  gender reassignment

•  pregnancy and maternity

•  race

•  religion or belief

•  sexuality

•  marriage and civil partnership

We also take into consideration a diverse range of other needs that may affect members of the North East population.

Our equality and diversity principles apply to all patients, carers, patients’ representatives, members of the public, partner organisations, staff and job applicants.
