Joanne Baxter, Director of Quality & Safety
Joanne took up her appointment as Director of Quality & Safety (Executive Nurse) on 1st August 2013.
Beginning her nursing training in 1987, Joanne qualified as a registered General Nurse in 1990 and has had a wide and varied career in the NHS. She has a breadth of clinical experience from working in a number of specialist areas in both acute hospitals, primary care and community settings.
She has a BSc (Hons) in Public Health/Community Nursing in 1999, successfully completed a Master's degree in Business and Administration (MBA) in 2006 and the NELA Top Leaders Programme in 2014. She has a passion for Continuous Quality and Service improvement and has trained in a number of improvement methodologies.
She has worked in a variety of settings across the north east and Scotland and has experience in managing a diverse mix of clinical services at a senior level, both community services, acute hospitals and urgent care.
She is a Prince II practioner in project management and has been involved in the development of many innovative service transformation projects, often spanning many organisational boundaries, breaking down barriers and using improvement methods to streamline the patient pathway and improve care for patients.
As the Director of Quality & Safety, and Executive Nurse for the board, she provides clinical advice and leadership, in partnership with the Medical Director, in ensuring effective, high quality services are delivered to the communities we serve.
