Remembering Sheldon Flanighan

North East Ambulance Service said a final fond farewell to a much-loved colleague who tragically died in April.

Sheldon Flanighan joined the ambulance service on PTS in 1994 and was predominantly based at Blucher station, where he eventually became a team leader, before returning to the road as an ambulance care assistant based at Ashington station.

In honour of his service, and as a mark of respect for their friend and colleague who will be deeply missed, hundreds of past and present NEAS colleagues lined the streets leading up to the church to his funeral service in Amble earlier today.

Amy Rosindale, PTS operations manager for north division, gave a eulogy at Sheldon’s funeral alongside Chief Executive Helen Ray.

Amy said: “Sheldon was a caring, charismatic, larger than life character who would always do his best to make you laugh. He had a huge heart.

“He worked closely with many staff over the years, both as a manager and a colleague.

“I speak for all of my NEAS colleagues when I say, Sheldon will always have a place in our hearts. The memories will live on. Stories of him will be shared for years to come and those who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing him, will feel like they did.”
