Great North Care Record – connecting health and care records across the region
North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is a part of the Great North Care Record. This means that we make the information we record about you available electronically on the Great North Care Record.
Health and care staff from other organisations in the North East and North Cumbria who are involved in your care can then access this information. It helps us make your care better and safer.
It also means we can access the important information recorded about your care by other parts of the NHS system who are also involved in the Great North Care Record, helping us to provide better and safer care.
The Great North Care Record connects GPs, local hospitals, social care, community and mental health teams to provide a ‘view only’ display of your medical record from across the system.
The Great North Care Record operates in the North East of England and North Cumbria and covers the 3.6 million people living in our region.
The first organisations to make patient data available on the Great North Care Record are:
- Cumbria, Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
- South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust
- Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- GPs across the region
- North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust
- Some community records (Newcastle Hospitals, County Durham and Darlington, Northumbria, North Tees and Hartlepool and Tees, Esk and Wear Valley)
The remaining Trusts and first local authorities are working towards sharing data in the coming months.
If you want to find out more about the Great North Care Record, or have any concerns or queries about how your records are shared;
As a partner in the Great North Care Record (GNCR), we need to request and share patient information from and with other relevant parties who are part of their care and ongoing support network.
Full details of the member organisations of the GNCR, what data may be viewed across the GNCR network, and what are the benefits to being part of the GNCR are available from the GNCR website – https://www.greatnorthcarerecord.org.uk/
If patients have any objection to being part of the GNCR they can contact the GNCR helpline on 0344 811 9587 and speak to a member of the team. In order to log and process a patient’s objection, some basic demographic information will be collected from them. The GNCR will always seek to comply with patient requests, but in some circumstances they may have to use patient information to comply with other legal duties.
