North East Ambulance Service appoints new Non Executive Director

North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (NEAS) has appointed Dr Nini Adetuberu, an experienced clinical leader and psychiatrist, as its newest non‑executive director (NED).

Dr Adetuberu brings 20 years of experience across health and social care, spanning frontline clinical practice, mental health leadership, commissioning, policy development, and national regulation. A registered doctor with the General Medical Council, she has held senior roles within the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC), influencing national policy and the regulation of mental health services.

Dr Adetuberu currently serves as a Non‑Executive Director at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) and is an Associate NED at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where she sits on the Quality and People Committees. In these roles she provides strategic oversight, holds executives to account, and supports organisational development, culture transformation and improvements in patient safety and service performance.

NEAS Chair Stuart Corbridge, welcomed the appointment, saying: “Dr Adetuberu brings a depth of clinical knowledge, governance expertise and national policy experience that will be invaluable to the Board. Her passion for improving patient outcomes and her understanding of our region make her a fantastic addition to Team NEAS.”

Dr Adetuberu said “It’s a privilege to join NEAS as a non-executive director and work with the talented teams within the organisation, to make a difference day in day out, for people who use our service. I look forward to joining NEAS in their work with partners to continue to improve patient pathways within the region and deliver outstanding compassionate and responsive care.”

As a non‑executive director, Dr Adetuberu will:

  • provide independent scrutiny and strategic challenge
  • support the development of NEAS’s values, culture and long‑term vision
  • seek assurance on quality, safety and performance
  • champion good governance, integrity and effective risk management
  • act as an ambassador for NEAS at local, regional and national level
  • help strengthen partnership working across the North East & North Cumbria Integrated Care System

The role requires a time commitment of up to three days per month and is appointed for an initial three‑year term.
