North East Ambulance Service is hosting major UK conference on emergency care research.

18th September 2025

North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (NEAS) will host the 999 EMS Research Forum Annual Conference on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 September 2025 at the Crowne Plaza in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Delivered in collaboration with the National Ambulance Research Steering Group (NARSG) and PRIME Centre Wales, the event will bring together healthcare professionals, researchers, and ambulance clinicians to explore the latest developments in research and emergency care.

As the host, NEAS is placing the North East on the map for research excellence in paramedicine and emergency response.

The conference will open with a full day of workshops, offering an in-depth exploration of clinical topics about emergency care, followed by opportunities for networking. The second day will feature a programme with keynote speakers as well as poster sessions focused on the research undertaken by colleagues across the country.

Paramedic Tyne BridgeDirector of paramedicine at NEAS, Andrew Hodge said, “This is a significant milestone for NEAS.

“Hosting this conference demonstrates the value and quality of the research being generated in our region. It’s a privilege to welcome colleagues from across the UK, and abroad, to share ideas, inspire innovation, and continue improving the care we provide to patients before they reach hospital.

“Research and innovation underpin the continuous improvement of our services. The agenda for this year’s conference reflects the complexity and urgency of the issues we face in emergency care. It also reflects our ambition—not only to contribute to national conversations, but to lead them.”

The 999 EMS Research Forum Annual Conference represents an important platform for advancing best practice, building partnerships, and enhancing patient outcomes nationwide.

Dr Mark Kingston, Chair of the Research Forum said, “We are proud to be working in close partnership with NEAS for our 27th annual conference.

“Each year we work together with a UK ambulance service, ensuring our event is grounded in their frontline expertise and insight.

“As our 2025 host, NEAS’ involvement is testament to their shared commitment to advancing regional and national ambulance service research and delivering improvements in care.”

NEAS’s research team will showcase a number of its own projects that cover a variety of areas, including stroke, cardiac arrest, sepsis, head injuries, trauma, orthopaedics, triage techniques, referral pathways, leadership and quality improvement.
