Mark’s career didn’t begin at the ambulance service. After school Mark became a bus driver at the age of 19 and he also worked in the airport as a baggage handler. He eventually joined NEAS because he had always wanted to look after people. He loved working with all his colleagues and being part of the green family.
Mark worked for NEAS for over 26 years – working at Hawkey’s Lane, Wideopen and more recently at Blucher.
Known of as ‘a big friendly giant’ – Mark was full of fun and laughter and always playing jokes on people. In his spare time, he enjoyed socialising and despite a huge fear of flying, he still managed a holiday to Spain.
Colleagues will remember him with happiness, kindness and laughter. He made those he worked with feel safe and supported, just by having him by their side at work. His colleagues describe him as kind, funny and professional – someone who treated all his patients, from every walk of life, with compassion and genuine care, in both happy and sad times.
And he wasn’t just popular with our teams – doctors, nurses, porters and cleaners – they all knew Mark and were equally fond of him.
Losing Mark came as a great shock to us all and our thoughts are with his family, in particular his mum who he loved so dearly, his friends and his colleagues.
Mark was not only a valued colleague but also a friend to many of you and he will be greatly missed.
Thank you Mark for all you did for your colleagues and your patients.
